We’re talking about expungements here. I know that the vast majority of people don’t even think about expungements, don’t even think about trying to get it wiped off their record or their records sealed. And I’m not sure why that is, but that’s a big part of making it back into society and being a productive part of society. You know, getting a job, moving forward, etc, etc. How tough is it to get expungements?

There’s a clear chart that says that if you were found responsible for these type of crimes, they can be expunged. Those are crimes that did not result in you have them go to prison, crimes that are not related to any type of sexual misconduct. And crimes, for the most part, they did not produce great bodily injury.
So, there’s a big group of crimes that… if it started off as a felony, it can get reduced to a misdemeanor, and they can get expunged. And more people are understanding that, and I’ve got a pretty good practice of being able to help people get through that.
Most of the time, it doesn’t come up until they’re trying to get a promotion or they’re looking for a new job. They are told by the background search people that this is showing up.
“Oh my god. This happened ten years ago, fifteen years ago. Let me see if I can find someone to help me get it expunged.” And we’re pretty good about it.
And most Judges, even prosecutors, understand that, if you’ve shown that there’s been a huge space between this conviction and what you’re doing now, and you’ve got a legitimate reason to get this off your record, we’ve had 95% success.
