Most people don’t think about accidents on a bicycle. You learn to ride as a kid, you’re riding, and how often do you hear about an accident on a bicycle? I fell off my bike, big deal, get back on. But there, of course, are serious injuries and with the proliferation of social media and, you know, 5,000 channels on television, you’re going to hear about some of the extreme cases where a bicyclist gets hurt or something happened. So, is that any different in preparing a case from a car accident?

Well, within bicycle accidents, you’ve got a couple of different categories. So, the majority of the cases that we handle are cases where a bicyclist or a cyclist is hit by a car. And those are the majority of the cases we have.

You also have some products liability cases where there was either a defect in design or the manufacturer of a particular portion of the bicycle that failed while it was being used and those injuries can also be significant.

And lastly, we have people that are competing in races and a race organizer may have done something, well, we’ll call it negligent or improper, either in course design or not having the right amount of police officers or officers directing traffic, closing intersections and a race participant will get injured by a wayward vehicle or something that’s on the road.

So, within bicycle accidents, you’ve got those three categories. Obviously the most common, are the car versus cyclist. And that’s something that is a phenomenon down here in Florida.

I mean, yeah, I think, well, our weather allows a bicycle 12 months out of the year. Yes. A lot of the people in the north and other parts of the country don’t have that.

Secondly, our roads really weren’t built or designed. Our roads are fairly narrow. So, most roads here do not have bicycle lanes and the ones that do, it’s really, it’s hard for cars and cyclists to kind of get along on the road at the same time. So, there is a large amount, a large amount of bicycle versus car accidents here or car versus bicycle accidents.
