Video Transcript
In Miami-Dade County, hit-and-run drivers may account for roughly 25–35% of crashes involving cyclists or pedestrians. That can delay identifying the at-fault driver and shift recovery to uninsured/underinsured motorist and other available insurance. This video explains the problem and what bicycle accident victims should do after being struck by a car.

Another phenomenon that we have down here in Florida are hit and run accidents. So, I’m going to tell you that more than, and I’m throwing this statistic out, I apologize, I don’t like to throw things out and not have it be accurate, but I’m going to say at least 25 to 35 percent of the time, a person that hits a cyclist or a pedestrian, even at far, is going to flee the scene of the accident here in Florida.

It’s incredible. It is. It’s incredible. So, they’ve tried to push for stronger penalties on somebody that flees the scene of an accident with the presumption that that person was perhaps intoxicated, and the penalty will be is if someone were charged with a DUI.
But that still has done nothing to slow down the amount of people that are hit and run daily.
