Divorce mediation’s first issue is usually choosing a workable framework—who will participate, what information must be exchanged, and how decisions will be made—so sessions stay focused and productive. Coming prepared with key financial documents and clear priorities helps reduce conflict and speeds up agreement. This article explains what to expect at the first mediation, how to organize paperwork, set goals, and approach negotiation effectively.

98% of the time that’s as a result of that free half-hour consultation which is either face-to-face or on a zoom video because sometimes, I have clients in different states different parts of the country.

But in any event, once the people have met me and talked to me and I’ve met them and talked to them, we get a good feel for each other. Then I tell you, go home and think about it. If one of you wants to use me and the other one doesn’t, can’t. I have a policy for the last 31 years that once I’ve met a couple, I will not represent one of those people.

The only way I’m going to represent them is if they both want to use me, okay? So, and I tell people, if one of you thinks I’m good and the other one doesn’t think that you don’t want to use me for some reason, then look further because I’m not going to represent one of you on an adversarial basis.
