What makes you different than the guy next door in terms of estate planning?

You know, why should somebody, when they’re talking to those three to five different estate planning attorneys that they want to talk to, why should they choose you?

Andrew Dósa – Estate Planning Attorney – Tacoma WA and Oakland, CA

Well, let me start by offering a compliment to the fellow members of the bar that I know. I think they’re all really competent. I wouldn’t want to say that I’m the best attorney and you should only go to me, because there’s just no way that you’re going to get any better service.

What I will say is: What is important to you? If you feel like you can connect with me, and you feel like you can communicate with me, and you feel like I’m responsive to the issues that are important to you, and you feel like you can have a good relationship with me, then that’s really going to be the kicker.

It’s simple. You may know a lot of people that you would trust. You may meet five or six attorneys. But I’m just guessing that in five or six attorneys, you’re going to find one or two that you’re just not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling from.

And you may not get a warm and fuzzy feeling from me, but you may think, “Hey, Andrew sounds like he’s willing to listen to me and understand what my situation is. Andrew is responsive to me. I like the way he communicates,” or whatever it may be that you pick up from me.

So really, who is it that you’d want to have a relationship with?

People ask me, “What do I do? I’ve got a couple referrals to attorneys.” And I’ll say, I’m not going to tell you bad things about that attorney unless I really think there’s something scary about the attorney. But I generally don’t like to talk behind anybody’s back.

What I want to say is: Well, the question is, do you feel like you could work well with me? Do you think we communicate and connect?

Because it really should be some kind of relationship, so that even if we haven’t connected for five or ten years, and I’ve done your trust, you can call me and you know that I’ll be available to take care of you.

And I don’t plan to retire anytime soon. I’m going to keep going until I have no more breath in me.

So I hope that I can continue to help people as I get older and continue to move on in years.
