So now speaking of injuries, let’s ask, well, I want to ask, what are, because we hear this phrase all the time, slip and fall. What are common slip and fall injuries where somebody should see, obviously they have to get their issue resolved medically, right? And it may go on for a period of time, but what are some common slip and fall injuries where somebody should see somebody like yourself, you know, a lawyer to say, Hey, you know, this happened to me, and how do I get recompense?
Steven Gacovino – Personal Injury Attorney – Suffolk County (Long Island), New York
It’s an interesting question. So, we see a lot of slip and fall accidents and trip and fall accidents, but basically people falling on a hard surface. We see that very often. Sometimes it’s a slip where there might be a wet spot, say in a grocery store or within a building. Sometimes it’s a trip where there might be some uneven pavement in a parking lot or on a sidewalk.
We see those types of accidents often. Now, the injuries that I often see on a trip fall, those are people that are usually falling forward, right, because they’ve caught themselves on an uneven piece of pavement. Sometimes it’s a facial injury or fractures to the face, bruises, cuts, lacerations. Often, we see wrist injuries where people have tried to brace themselves.
We always see back injuries a lot of the time because you’re moving with such force and you’re just not ready for it. And that… those soft tissue type injuries that we see in necks and backs, we see that all the time. A lot of times in the slip and fall injury, you might see an injury to the knee, or to the back of the head where somebody just falls backwards and lands on the back of their head or their neck. You see a lot of whiplash kind of injuries there too.
We see for both, we see a ton of ankle injuries, broken ankles, sprained ankles, ankle surgeries. We see it frequently. So yeah, just recently we did one where somebody landed really hard, twisted on their side, landed on their shoulder. So we see a lot of shoulder injuries.
So, I know I’m naming almost every part of the body, but that’s because every part of the body is vulnerable in these types of accidents. So, we see a lot of it. I gave you some specifics. Really the face planting in the wrists when you’re falling forward, we see that a lot. A lot of times for the people that are falling backwards, it’s an ankle, it’s a neck, it’s the back of the head, brain injuries that we have to watch out for. So, we see a lot of these.
