You mentioned something just a few minutes ago about, you mentioned a truck in this scenario. So let’s transition to truck. What is different about a truck accident? Who can be held responsible for truck accidents?
Steven Gacovino – Personal Injury Attorney – Suffolk County (Long Island), New York
Well, that’s a very good question. What we’ve seen and these are things that you have to always look out for. Obviously, you have the named driver who is going to be a target of your potential litigation or your claim. You have the underlying registered owner of the company that, or owner of the vehicle rather, that you will target.
But sometimes they’re driving on behalf of some other company, and that needs to be explored. Sometimes you might have, if I could use a real world example, sometimes Amazon will outsource transport to a different trucking company. So you’ll have the driver, you’ll have the trucking company, and then you’ll have the big company like Amazon that may have outsourced. They are driving on behalf of Amazon. We may potentially make a claim against that company as well.
So yeah, there could be multiple parties. And then you also want to look even at municipalities because sometimes you’re looking at road design. Sometimes you’re looking at some other issues where maybe the maybe the truck doesn’t belong on that road. Maybe the road itself is dangerous. So you have to keep your eyes open on really every option that might be available to you.

It sounds like it’s definitely more complex than a straightforward car accident.
Steven Gacovino – Personal Injury Attorney – Suffolk County (Long Island), New York
It is. And also what we see are often, we see a lot more devastating injuries resulting from a truck accident as opposed to an ordinary rear-ender car accident.
