And I think what I’m getting from your description and detail of divorce mediation is the fairness. Am I correct?
Bill Leininger – Divorce Mediation Attorney – Richmond County, NY
Yeah, and of course, you know, the fairness is in the eye of the beholder, but let me tell you something. I’ve had cases, people spend $50,000, $100,000, $200,000, they’re still not happy. They want to appeal the judgment. Now, it’s taken three years, OK, to go through. Maybe it’s $190,000 already. And then one person says, I’m not going to put up with that decision. We’re going to the appellate division. And they want to spend another $25,000 on an appeal and possibly remand it and start the whole thing again.
In other words, what do you want to spend? 10 years of your life fighting in court. So, mediation stops that. And it’s not a man or a woman in black robes makes the decision. You two, will make the decisions for what’s best for you two and for your kids.
You’re going to be happy 100%? Probably not, but you’re going to be happy 100% from what the judge decides either. And at least you’ll save thousands, about thousands of dollars.
And more importantly, your kids are going to thank you. Thank you mommy, thank you daddy for not putting us through it.
