If you don’t try, you don’t have a consultation with an experienced divorce mediator, you and your spouse ask the tough questions.
How knowledgeable is this attorney? How many years of practice has this attorney had just in the divorce field? And you leave that….
I have a policy. I will not accept a retainer at the end of that free half-hour consultation that I have with a husband or wife. I want the husband or wife to go home and talk it out.
And sometimes someone says, oh, Leininger is the best thing since sliced bread, he graduated number one in the law school, he’s been doing this for, at that time, 15 years and now 42 years. And that’s wonderful because that rapport is going to be important.
But then the other spouse may say, I think he’s a poor imitation of a used car salesman, okay? I feel very awkward with him.
Well, guess what? I’m not the right divorce mediator for that couple. It has to be both husband and wife have to feel comfortable that I’m not just a big taxi meter, okay? I’m just running up the bills.
