You talked about evidence that people needed to compile in a personal injury accident. Does that go for this type of…same thing?
Steven Gacovino – Social Media Youth Harm Mass Tort Attorney – Suffolk County, NY
Yes. That digital footprint that they leave behind is of vital importance. Knowing really everywhere where your child has been under various different Facebook identities, sometimes they’ve opened up six or seven accounts. Some of them might be on Facebook, some of them might be on Instagram, some of them might be on Snapchat.
Whatever it’s been, it’s good to know where they’ve been, what names they were using, and preserve that information to the extent that it’s possible. In addition to a lot of the other stuff that we’re talking about here in terms of the driving need to be on Facebook and the algorithms that are having what we believe to be deleterious effects on people.
Also, exposure to potential sexploitation predators. We’ve seen stuff like that in a number of these cases as well. We’re looking into a number of cases involving where a sexual predator gained access to a teenager as a result of or through that platform.
We’re still trying to figure out what liability they have, but are they making it possible? Are they bringing people like this together with children? This is a concern.
